on Wall Street on Thursday, with futures for the S&P 500, Dow Jones

TOKYO, Aug 2 - Japan's Nikkei share average
advanced on Thursday as investors scooped up battered stocks,
while hopes for policy action from the European Central Bank
offered support.
Shares that suffered steep losses on Wednesday because of
disappointing earnings or forecasts recovered somewhat
HONG KONG, Aug 2 - China shares resumed their
downward spiral on Thursday, hurt by steep losses for property
developers that dragged down on the Hong Kong market, after
state-run media reported there could be fresh curbs, which would
hit the sector.
